Trademarks
General Information
- Classification - 10th edition, single class filing. Class 33, alcoholic goods in class 32, pork meat in class 29, and Christmas trees and related products in class 28 cannot be registered
- Search - Possible for word and device marks
- Examination - Formality, absolute, and relative grounds
- Opposition period - 60 days from publication date
- Extension of time - Not possible for filing oppositions, counter oppositions, and responding to office actions
- Term of protection - 10 Hijri years (approximately 9 years and 8 months) from filing date and renewable for like periods
- Use - Mark is vulnerable to cancellation action by interested parties if there is no effective use of the mark for a period of 5 consecutive years preceding date of filing for cancellation
Filing Requirements
- Power of Attorney with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- In case of claiming priority, certified copy of the corresponding home or foreign application.
- List of the goods/services to be covered by the application.
- In case of claiming priority, a certified copy of the priority application is to be filed within six months from the filing date of the foreign application.
Renewal
- A Power of Attorney with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- The original Saudi registration certificate of the trademark for the purpose of endorsement.
Assignment
- Deed of Assignment, signed by both parties, with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- Power of Attorney from the Assignee with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- The Original Registration Certificate for the purpose of endorsement.
Merger
- Power of Attorney from the entity surviving the merger, with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- Certificate of Merger, with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- The Original Registration Certificate for the purpose of endorsement.
License
- Power of Attorney from the licensee with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- Copy of the License Agreement, signed by both parties, with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- The Original Registration Certificate for the purpose of endorsement.
Change of Name or Address
- Change of Name - Certificate of Change of Name with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- Power of Attorney in the new name and/or address with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- The Original Registration Certificate for the purpose of endorsement.

General Information
- Search - Suspended
- Examination - Formality and substantive
- Publication - Published in the official gazette after grant
- Opposition period - 60 days from grant and publication of patent
- Annuities - Annuities are paid at the beginning of each year subsequent to the year in which the international application was filed (or the application was filed for Paris Convention Route)
- or and payable within a period of 3 months (January 1st to March 31st) without extra fees. Late payment of annuity fees is allowed within the next 3 months in exchange for a double fee.
- Term of protection - 20 years from the application/international filing date

- If the applicant is different from the inventor, an Assignment from the inventor (s) with Apostille certification/Saudi Consulate legalization
- Specification, claims, abstract and formal drawings, if any, in English and Arabic. The Arabic translation will be prepared from our end.

Industrial designs
General Information
- Term of protection - 10 years from filing date
- Examination - Formality examination only
- Annuities - A maintenance fee is paid annually on designs, and is payable the first 3 months of each calendar year following the year the design application was filed.
- A grace period of 3 months is allowed for late payment with an extra charge
- Renewal - Not possible
